E1271: The Engineering of the Iron Age in Splash Spring 2024 (Apr. 21, 2024)
Considered to be the last of the so-called metal age after bronze and copper, the iron age indicates the time where humans were finally able to mass produce many feats of engineering that had never been done before without the manipulation of iron. Iron was not a new element at the time of the iron age, but it was not correctly used. The key to this monumental period was the fact that we finally understood the importance of processing and materials selection towards specific applications. In this course, we aim to briefly explore the engineering accomplishments of materials discovery and engineering, and dive into a small demonstration of how the treatment of materials changes its properties.
