Spring 2024

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Splash?

Splash is an educational outreach program in which university students teach classes to 9th through 12th graders. Splash at Berkeley is completely student-organized and run. The details of the classes being taught, including duration, topic, size, and difficulty/prerequisites, are determined by the teachers themselves. Topics range from Introduction to Particle Physics, to The Study of Kafka, from Introduction to Japanese to Survival Skills 101. See the course catalog from our recent past programs: Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. Splash seeks students who are internally driven to learn. We want to give them a unique opportunity to explore a passion and/or learn something outside of the ordinary curriculum. Students are given the freedom to choose their own classes and pick their own schedules.

When is Splash at Berkeley?

The next Splash at Berkeley is a one-day event on Sunday, April 21st, 2024. It will be held from 10 am PST to 5 pm PST.

Is day-of registration allowed?

Day-of registration is NOT allowed. We will open student registration later in the Fall semester. More information about registration will come soon.

Can I take a class outside of my grade level?

Teachers use their best judgment to set the grade ranges for their classes, so we do not allow students to sign up for classes recommended for grades other than their own.

Do I have to fill every time slot with a class?

Nope. If you are only available at certain time blocks, that’s fine as long as you sign in and sign out with an admin. You do not have to sign up for a class every period. If you don’t see any class that looks interesting, it’s not a problem; in fact, we encourage you not to attend any class that does not appeal to you. All that said, students, find the day more fulfilling if they take as many interesting classes as possible.

What should I bring on the day of the program?

As a student, you should have all of these waivers filled out with your parent along with a photocopy of your medical card (not the physical one). Please print and staple ALL papers together.

Click here to see the waiver packet for students attending.

What is the cost of the program?

The cost for the program is $30 this year. We also accept donations to directly Splash at Berkeley and/or our umbrella organization Learning Unlimited (LU)
